Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC)

A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is a model for delivering learning content online to any person who wants to take a course, with no limit on attendance. It aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. MOOC provide interactive forums for discussion to support community interactions among all the stakeholders. Various platforms like EdX, Coursera, Udamey, Khan Academy, Skillfeed, Uopeople, etc. are available to take up the online courses of one’s interest.

The Institution strives to create the ICT enabled learning culture as its brand identity in the society. The students are being trained in the use of computer as an information and communication technology using online, offline and blended approach of learning. Wi-Fi enabled classes, smart board and computer lab help students in their curricular and co-curricular activities like application of different software to create learning resources, videos, etc. using YouTube, WWW for referencing and social networking apps and software like, Blogs, Audio and Video Chat for off campus interaction on mobile and computers.

The Institution also trains the students to learn using the online platform of Learning Management Sysytem (LMS). One of the MIS that can be easily availed is provided by Massive Open Online courses.(MOOCS) There are thousands of good courses available online designed by experts in academic fields and are affiliated to the prestigious universities from all over the world.

The Institution believes in inculcating the habit of lifelong learning among the students and hence encourages and ensures that students take such courses for gaining more knowledge in the field of education. Students are provided with the guidance for selection of the course and also during the process of learning in terms of technical assistance, concept clarification, etc.

The Course Transaction:

  • Students are oriented to the concept of online learning and also are trained in the basic skills of computer application if required.
  • Students explore different courses initially selected by teachers by ensuring the appropriateness in relation to time, content and context.
  • Students’s queries about the structure of Learning Management System and the instructional design that the selected specific course offers are answered in a session.
  • Students work in the computer lab on fixed days and also at their convenient place and time.
  • At a given time, students submit the progress chart of the student as a proof of completion of the course. Oral examination is conducted in the form of Viva-Voce to test their learning outcomes.

For the current year, students have enrolled themselves for the Certificate Course on “Learning How to Learn” at Coursera.

Such online courses of educational significance can help them grow personally and professionally as well as would make them familiar and comfortable with online WEB technology.



A Certificate Course in YOGA training

Yoga Training programme:

The Institution is committed to create an environment where students feel empowered to improve upon their learning behavior for which mere academic inputs are not enough. Going beyond it, they are provided with the training that contributes in their capacity building by motivating them to train their inner self, through emotional management, self-understanding and positive thinking. Yoga training can help students to strengthen their potentials.

Institution conducts a Certificate Course in Yoga training for students in view with making them conscious of the importance of physical and mental wellbeing.

Objectives of yoga training programme are as follows:

  • To enhance the capacities of students for physical and mental wellbeing through self-help.
  • To develop healthy habits for better health.
  • To empower student teachers to create a harmonious classroom at workplace.

The yoga course is one of the value added courses that the Institution offers. It is research based course wherein the effectiveness of the course is studied through students’ post training feedback and pre-test and post achievement tests.

Before commencing with the yoga training, students are given pre-test where their knowledge or awareness about yoga is checked. On the basis of the outcomes of the pre-test, the programme is designed or modified to make it mode need based for trainee students.

The modified version of the Training package is then implemented. The course is conducted by expert Yoga teachers who are invited to run the course. The content of the course include theory as well as practical demonstrations and practice of different types of pranayama and Yogasans.

The achievement test including practicals and theory is administered to check the learning outcomes in terms of knowledge and awareness about yoga. The students’ feedback too is taken to find the effectiveness of the programme. The students are awarded with the course completion certificates.

For the current year, complete package of 20 hours training programme in a span of 10 to 11 days was designed in collaboration with the well-known Patanjali Yoga Samiti from Mumbai region. It included developing understanding of the concept of Yoga, theoretical and scientific bases for the Yogasans and pranayama and practice sessions for learning these asana and pranayama. Similarly, students were trained in Surya Namaskar and yogic jogging. These sessions were conducted by the trained yoga teachers. Finally the Practical and theory examination was held. As discussed above pre-test and post-test were taken. Achievement test was taken to see their performance level. Quantitative assessment was done and marks were assigned. Students are awarded with the certificate endorsed by the Yoga Samiti.

Certificate Course in Phonetics


A Certificate Course in Phonetics for effective pronunciation of words of English

Lords Universal College of Education is committed to nurturing its student-teachers to develop into ready professionals and competent teachers.

Working towards this goal, the Institution identifies the most common drawbacks of students that may prove hurdle for them in future to get jobs in good schools or also in their interaction with students in the teaching-learning process or with other stake holders. One of the very crucial aspects that any teacher needs to have mastery over is communicating the expertise to the learners. The verbal medium of communication in this context becomes very important for common understanding of the learning message sent by the teachers. There are many factors in the language used as a medium of instruction that can become barriers to effective communication. One of these is pronunciation. Mastery over language is observed also through the way the words are uttered.

Institution offers a Certificate Course in Phonetics for students by considering following objectives:

  • To cater to the individual needs of the students.
  • To enhance the proficiency of the students in English pronunciation.

The Course covers all the main aspects of English phonetics:

  • phonemic system (vowels and consonants)
  • segmental analysis (allophonic processes)
  • word stress
  • weakening and co-articulation processes
  • intonation and meaning

These topics are dealt with using interactive strategies like inquiry, discussion, experiential learning etc. Speaking and listening is equally focused in the course deployment. Learners get plenty of practice in pronunciation performance (sounds, more importantly, in connected speech) and in auditory discrimination (ear-training).

The main strand of ‘Certificate Course in Phonetics’ pays particular attention to the challenges of English pronunciation for native speakers of other languages. We cover the English consonant and vowel systems, and examine the phonetic characteristics of connected speech, analyzing the ways in which the pronunciation of words in discourse typically differs from their ‘dictionary’ pronunciation. The lectures, ear-training and practical classes focus on English phonetics rather than on phonetics in general.

Alongside this main strand, we also conduct an examination to test the skills achieved by the learners.

The course is well researched in terms of identifying common mistakes made by students while pronouncing certain words in English, the survey was conducted to find out the readiness of the students about the course.

The first course is scheduled to be launched in the first week of April on a pilot run. The effectiveness of the course will be analyzed through students’ achievement test and their opinion about it post course and the modifications will be made to make it more refined and need based.

The course will be conducted by a well-qualified staff member, who has an advanced course on Phonetics and Phonology run by University of Mumbai to her credit.

The institution intends to offer the certificate course to the learners from the institution and beyond it too as an integral part of its community outreach campaign.
